Energy and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Policy

Spectrum Brands, Inc. May 2021

Spectrum Brands Holdings, Inc., and its controlled affiliates and subsidiaries and their directors, officers, employees, contractors, and contingent labor worldwide (collectively, “Spectrum Brands”), are committed to the protection of the environment, preservation of natural resources, and the effective management and reduction of energy and greenhouse gases (“GHG”). Spectrum Brands recognizes the growing concerns related to climate change, and we are committed to doing our part to find solutions to this issue. To meet our commitments, Spectrum Brands:

  • Establishes executive support, engages key functional leaders, and develops clear and actionable steps to achieve goals for energy reduction and corresponding GHGs emissions. For example, Spectrum Brands has set a Company-wide goal for the energy reduction goal of at least 3% per year (normalized for revenue).
  • Coordinates regular meetings with operational leaders (on a business unit and functional basis) to review sustainability projects associated with energy, water and waste usage and savings.
  • Identifies opportunities for purchasing direct, renewable energy in key markets (where available) to offset regional grid supply that uses nonrenewable sources of energy.
  • Invests in energy conservation and demand management opportunities identified through a series of energy audits performed at its top emitting facilities.
  • Requires energy considerations when making investment(s) for major renovations and new capital equipment and major construction.
  • Maintains a comprehensive energy and emissions database for all Company-owned manufacturing plants and Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Maintains ISO50001 (Energy Management Systems) at select manufacturing sites.
  • Engages supply chain to identify key opportunities for energy and GHG reduction, including, but not limited to, contributions from our Tier 1 suppliers and logistics providers.
  • Reports energy metrics and greenhouse gases to the Carbon Disclosure Project (“CDP”), Walmart’s Project Gigaton, and in our Biennial Sustainability Report.
  • Meets regularly with our Sustainability Team to review Energy/GHG performance, establish benchmarks, set goals, review project proposals, develop continuous improvement plans, and monitor progress.
  • Encourages employee engagement to influence energy reductions in their home and workplace.
